Obituary of Elvira Concepcion Castaneda

DR. ELVIRA CONCEPCION CASTAÑEDA (née PAULO) Elvira passed away peacefully on Monday, April 10, 2017 at the age of 85 years. She was predeceased by her husband Jose; two sons, Ned and Ted; beloved grandson Thomas; and brother Jose. Elvira is survived by two daughters, Maria (Doug) and Elvira (Joe); grandchildren, Max, Nick, Kailey, and Dylan; brother Albert (Rizalina); sister Esther; as well as her nephews and nieces. In 1957, Elvira graduated with a medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. She moved to Chicago on her own to do her residency, specializing in Thoracic Surgery. During her residency, she met and married her husband Jose, who was also completing his residency at that time. Elvira was a strong woman, who raised four children on her own, after Jose died in 1976. She was a 21 year breast cancer survivor. The family would like to thank the staff of the Victorian Personal Care Home, and Pauline for the care they provided for over five years, as well as the staff at Unit 4A at the Pasqua Hospital who cared for Elvira in her final days. Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Elvira, may be made to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Regina, 445 N. Broad Street, Regina, SK S4R 2X8.
