Elizabeth Sirke

Obituary of Elizabeth Sirke

                                                         MARCH 3, 1923 – MAY 4, 2017

With deep sorrow the family of Elizabeth Sirke announce that our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 4, 2017.  Her family was her life and she surrounded us with her unconditional love.   We were so blessed to have this wonderful woman to love and be loved by.

Elizabeth was born in Putna, Romania but was raised in Moosburg, Austria.  Leaving her family behind, she immigrated to Saskatchewan with her husband, Joe, and their three children in 1950.    A few years later they settled in Regina.  Years of hardship followed but were fought with courage and sacrifice.   Mom worked the early morning shift at McGavins for many years and then took care of us without a complaint.  Mom was a wonderful cook and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and other needle work.  She won several ribbons at the Exhibition which she proudly displayed.   Her greatest pastime was looking after her grandchildren.    Her home was the gathering place for so many special occasions and we will never forget our amazing Austrian Christmas eve celebrations.

Mom and Dad enjoyed living in the Cathedral area.   In later years, while Mom was in a care home, she reminisced about spending her mornings shopping for groceries at the neighborhood Safeway store.  We still imagine her sitting on her front porch or tending to her beautiful flower garden.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Josef in 2009; daughter Whilemenia in 1952; Marie and Ferdinand Hannes (parents, Austria); her sister Angela Vaschauner (Austria); and brother Richard Hannes (Germany).  Left to cherish her memory are her daughters:  Charlotte Cook and grandson Jason, Christa Donaldson and grandson Ned (Juanita) and great-grandchildren, Keyara, Hailey and Tristen Donaldson; her son Rudy (Iris) and grandchildren Erik and Kara Sirke; her Austrian family includes her devoted niece Evelinde Schperberg (Sol and sons Danny and Alexander), who reside in California, and from Austria, her nieces Monica, Christi, Elvira and nephew Helmut and their families. We will miss Mom terribly but are thankful for so many precious memories.  Love you forever Mom. We extend our appreciation to the staff of Parkside Extendicare for their compassionate care of Mom over the past four years.   A private family graveside service was held.
