Obituary of Mary Gloria Shorten

Mary passed away peacefully on Monday, May 8, 2017 with her daughter Dixie by her side. She was born on March 26, 1926 in Macklin, Saskatchewan. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Cedric Lloyd and Ruby Alice Isabelle Clipperton; first husband, Alan Christie Matheson; second husband, Alex Ronald Shorten; son, Eric Angus Matheson; brothers, Norman Clipperton, William (Bill) Clipperton, Richard (Dick) Clipperton, Raymond (Ray) Clipperton, and Robert (Bubbles) Clipperton; sisters, Madeline Clipperton, Barbara Weir, Marjorie Smith, and Laura Adams; and step-son Ronald (Ron) Shorten. Mary will be sorely missed by her brother, John (Jack) Clipperton (Jean); sons, William (Gord) Matheson (Linda Martineau) and Keenan (Lee) Matheson (Arampan (Kob) Rijiranuwat); daughter, Dixie Vitic (Damir);  grandchildren, Nicholas (Nick), Jessie and Naomi Vitic; step-children, Darlene Grunder, Pat Berg (Gord), Margie Salter, Alex (Sandy) Shorten (Catherine), and Terry Shorten (Karen); numerous nieces, nephews, step-nieces, step-nephews and step-grandchildren; as well as many close friends and neighbours. During World War II, Mary delivered telegrams. Later, Mary worked in various departments with the Government of Saskatchewan in Regina, retiring after 25 years of service. She was an active volunteer with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion in Oliver, B.C. Mary immensely enjoyed travelling the world with friends and family. Other hobbies included playing bridge, BINGO, cribbage, bowling, and doing word search puzzles. On her return to Regina, Mary resided at College Park Retirement Residence I, where she made many good friends and appreciated the staff, with her daily candy and chocolate deliveries. A private interment will be held at a later date. Flowers most gratefully declined. However, should friends desire, contributions in memory of Mary would be appreciated by the family to the Salvation Army, 2240 13th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3M7 or the Royal Canadian Legion, 1820 Cornwall Street, Regina, SK S4P 2K2.
