Marilyn Petersen

Obituary of Marilyn Violet Petersen

Marilyn Violet (Page) Petersen, late of Hodgeville, SK, was born April 21st, 1942 in Sherbrooke, Quebec. She was raised in a godly home and at the age of 12, chose to serve God, a choice to which she was true until the end of her days. After primary school she graduated from Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke with a degree in teaching under full scholarship. She was brought west by an aunt, where she met Lloyd Petersen. They were married on July 18th, 1964. Marilyn began her teaching career and was loved by all students in many places that she taught throughout the southwest. There are many stories of her accuracy with a piece of chalk, hours of personal time spent at sporting events of her students and her love and care for each student that she taught. In 1970, Cori was born, and later, son Lee was added to make their family complete. Marilyn left her teaching career to focus on family and farm. She would magically cook up gourmet meals for numerous unexpected guests while running errands, driving trucks, mowing lawns and filling in all the background necessities always with a smile and an unbelievable amount of energy. You always felt welcome at Marilyn’s table regardless of how busy her day had been. Her laugh and sense of humour could pull you through any experience and her hugs were always heartfelt and sincere. Marilyn never liked anyone to fuss over her but she took great pleasure in making a great fuss over them. Marilyn’s children, and in a special way, her six grandchildren, brought her much joy over the last number of years. She would move mountains to make sure she was included in any events that her grandchildren were in. She was their biggest fan. Her example and faith in God is an inspiration to us all.

Marilyn passed away peacefully on May 17th, 2017 at the age of 75 years. Predeceased by parents Horace & Ethel Page; brothers-in-law Peter Parker and Cliff Petersen and nephew, Tim Daku, Marilyn is survived by spouse Lloyd Petersen; daughter Cori (Rob) Olsen of Moose Jaw; son Lee (Dana) Petersen of Hodgeville; 6 grandchildren - Jordan, Blake and Shelby Olsen, Tyson, Tilynn & Rhett Petersen; sister Doreen Parker of Calgary; brother Bob (Marj) Page of Kingston On; brother-in-law Murray Petersen; sisters-in-law Karla Petersen, Norma Petersen, JoAnne (Ross) Campbell, Margaret (Wayne) Daku; numerous nieces, nephews and innumerable friends.
