Obituary of Lawrence Jack Loos

Lawrence Loos, fondly known to all as Larry, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre at the age of 97. He was predeceased by his wife Rose (Leibel); his parents Lawrence and Katherine Loos; his sister Betty Loos; and his brother Edwin Loos. Larry is survived by his four children Lorna (Ken) Klein, Dianne (Bob) Wolbaum, Maureen (Bob) McDonald and Larry (Siobhan) Loos; his brother Norbert Loos; grandchildren, Reid Loos, Kelly (Dave) Magnusson and their children, Jenna, Hannah, and Alyssa, Brad (Rachel) Wolbaum and their daughter, Bea, Allison (Ryan) Easton and their daughters, Marlee and Julia, Heather Rodriguez and her son Zion and step-son Ian, Patrice (Geoff) Chomos and their children Abigail and Benjamin, Corin (Myles) Yasinski and their children Regan, Sophia and Heidi, Kenny Klein (Celine) and their children Luc and Eric and Scott Wolbaum (Carla Weitzel ). Larry grew up and lived on the 23rd block Broder St., attended St. Mary, St. Joseph and St. Augustine elementary schools and Campion College High School. Larry married Rose Leibel in Little Flower Church on September 2, 1946 and was a long-time member of the church. Larry’s Catholic faith was very important to him and he said his rosary daily. He was one of the original founders of Little Flower Credit Union and was their secretary-treasurer for many years. Larry worked for General Motors on the assembly line before being drafted into the army in 1941. He served with the Irish Fusiliers in Victoria and Vancouver before being sent overseas to London where he attained the rank of Sergeant and worked in the Officers Battlement Training Centre until 1946 . Upon return to Canada Larry worked for the Federal Government in a variety of positions as a civil servant until his retirement. Larry loved his cars and loved to drive. He and Rose traveled and camped throughout the United States and Canada. Until his last day he longed to return and “drive” to the west coast!

Larry was a very quiet and private man. His hobbies included doing the Leader Post crossword puzzle and anything involving mathematics! He taught himself his computer skills so he could beat the computer playing online chess and even joined Facebook when he was 90! He loved coming to family gatherings and watching his grandchildren’s activities, attending their graduations and weddings and holding his great-grandchildren. After Rose passed away Larry moved to Hamilton Plaza and lived there until he was 88 at which time he moved to Wintergreene, where his brother, Bert, also resided. In the fall of 2015 Larry had a bad fall causing him to land in the hospital with a broken wrist. After this, the decision was made to move him to the Veterans Unit of Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. The family is truly thankful and grateful for the outstanding and compassionate care dad received while there. They also wish to thank Veteran Affairs Canada and The Regina Legion for all the special privileges and gifts they gave to dad. Dad is now at peace with mom and though we will miss him dearly we thank God for the many blessings he has given his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be held at Little Flower R.C. Church, 420 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Marcel George officiating.
