Darren Polasek

Obituary of Darren Ross Polasek

JANUARY 25, 1961 – MAY 26, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darren Ross Polasek at the age of 56 years, in Regina, Saskatchewan. Darren died peacefully in his faith on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Wascana Grace Hospice surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his father Bernard; mother and father-in-law Lillian E. Kutarna and Henry A. Kutarna.  He will be forever remembered by his soul mate and wife, Annette; sons Andrew (April) and Ben; his mother Eunice Polasek; sister Darcy Polasek; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends. While working at IPSCO, Darren obtained his CMA in Regina and his MBA from Queen’s University. During his 28 years there, Darren made many friends and left a lasting impression. After taking a two-year sabbatical, during which he filled his time with home renovations, labour-intensive yard work, and even baking pies and Christmas goodies, he went on to become Chief Operating Officer at Kanuka Thuringer where he enjoyed six years. Darren also selflessly shared his time and gifts with the community. He was remarkable for the way he lived a life in the service of others, volunteering with Scouts Canada, the Cuernavaca Project, the Knights of Columbus as Grand Knight, and many ministries within Christ the King Parish. He was also extensively involved with his sons’ activities and was proudly their number one supporter in their musical endeavours.  Most importantly, Darren had a strong sense of family; he was close knit with his mother with whom he had daily contact. That extended to his mother-in-law who he invited to live in his home for the last two years of her life. Front and center for Darren was his relationship with Annette that had him saying that even after 32 years of marriage they were still on their honeymoon. A man of strong moral values and principles, Darren took great care and joy in modeling and instilling these as well as an enduring Catholic faith in both of his sons. During his final weeks in palliative care, Darren faced his death with acceptance and grace. With no thought for himself, all of his strength and love was focused on supporting his family through this difficult time. Surrounded by Annette, Andrew and Ben praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Darren passed with joy into the arms of his Saviour. Prayers will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. with Father Sami Helewa, S.J. presiding. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at Christ the King Roman Catholic Parish, 3239 Garnet St. Regina, SK on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Father John Weckend presiding. The reception after the funeral mass will be at Christ the King Hall. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Those so choosing may make memorial donations in Darren’s name to Christ the King Parish Memorial Fund or the Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation, Box 61, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, S6H 4N7.
