Obituary of William Arthur Thompson

William (Bill) A. Thompson, born July 20, 1929, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2017, at the age of 87. Bill was predeceased by his parents, William and Evelyn; his sister Gladys Kunsch; and sister-in-law Norah Thompson. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Shirley; son John (Sherry); grandchildren Catherine and Alexander; brother Gordon, sister Shirley (David) Hughes; and brother-in-law Wilhelm Kunsch. Bill graduated from Calgary’s Crescent Heights High School in 1947. Soon after, he started with the Bank of Canada and during a 40 year career worked across Canada, starting in Calgary and making his way through Saint John, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and finally Regina where he retired in 1988. It was during his stay in Ottawa that he met Shirley Gordon at the Bank of Canada. They were married in 1965. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying tennis, badminton, and curling. Bill was a longtime member of the Lakeshore Tennis Club in Regina and ran the Albert Park Mixed Curling program for a number of years. He was also a member of the Regina Gyro Club.  Visitation for family and friends will take place at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, 142 Massey Road, Regina, SK, on Saturday, June 3 at 11:00 a.m.  Special thanks to the many wonderful staff members at the Pasqua Hospital during this difficult time. Flowers are graciously declined.
