NORBERT FRANK (BERT) LOOS

July 17, 1925 - June 8, 1917

On Thursday, June 8, 2017, Bert passed away peacefully at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Katherine (Kraft) Loos; sister Betty Loos; and brothers, Edwin Loos and Larry Loos. Bert is survived by his nieces and nephews, Lorna (Ken) Klein, Dianne (Bob) Wolbaum, Maureen (Bob) McDonald, Larry (Siobhan) Loos, Alan Loos, Jim (Jan) Loos, Nancy (Hans) Nelson, Patricia (Ron) Costea, and Ron (Sheila) Loos; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Bert was born in Regina on Friday, July 17, 1925. The family moved to the big house on 2301 Broder Street in 1930, when Bert was 5 years old and he lived there until 1976. He attended St. Augustine elementary school, and Campion College and Central Collegiate. Bert worked at American Optical, grinding lenses for eyeglasses from 1942 to 1947. He obtained employment with the Department of Defence, as a civilian, in 1947. Bert worked at the Ordinance Depot on Winnipeg Street until 1964, when he was transferred to CFB Moose Jaw. There he finished off his 33 years of service as a Systems Control Officer, retiring in 1980. In Bert’s younger days, he had a passion for photography and enjoyed developing his own photos in his dark room. He would often have slide shows to present, with many pictures of family holidays and special events. Bert also spent hours studying the genealogy of the Loos and Kraft families and he wrote detailed family histories and memories. Bert had a very sharp mind (right to the end) and had a great ability to retain and record detailed information. Another great love of Bert’s was the cabin at B-Say-Tah Point, which he called Loos Ends. A great many weekends were spent with family at this beautiful cabin by the beach. Bert spent a large part of his adult life caring for his little sister Betty. Betty developed multiple sclerosis (MS) in her late 30’s, and Bert dedicated his life to looking after her. He lived with her until 2001, as primary caregiver until his own health concerns made impossible to continue her care. At that point, Betty moved in to Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. Bert still visited her several times a week and handled all her affairs until her death in 2011. In his senior years, Bert always lived very close to his older brother Larry. They both had apartments in the Hamilton Plaza, then moved to the Wintergreene Estates in 2006. When Bert had to give up his driver’s license due to failing eyesight, his big brother became his chauffeur. When Larry gave up his license, they had to count on their younger brother Ed to pick them up for coffee or Loos brother suppers. Although Bert was a private man who enjoyed his solitude, he also dearly loved his family and was always interested in all their various activities. The family would like to thank the Autumn Personal Care Home for the extraordinary care they provided for the last few months of Bert’s life. Funeral Mass will be held at Little Flower R.C.
