Obituary of Shirley Frieda Schmidt

Shirley, late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the age of 76 years. She was predeceased by her parents Bruno and Neta Baumann. Shirley is survived by her husband of 58 years Mike; daughter Karen (Tom) Fulcher of Sunset Cove; son Michael of Regina; grandchildren, Haley, Jessica (Mike) and Miranda (Brad); and brother Bob Baumann. Shirley was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.  She loved to laugh and share special family times at their cottage at Pelican Pointe.  The cottage was her favorite place. There, she encouraged all family members to search for fossils, arrowheads and smooth black stones.  Shirley loved to travel. She vacationed in Mexico, camped throughout Canada and the United States and travelled to Hawaii 25 times.  Her beautiful pastel portraits of family members and friends demonstrated her great love for people and her extraordinary artistry. Shirley always loved music and playing the piano. Even when her dementia became quite advanced, music seemed to bring her happiness and peace.  Dementia took many things away from Shirley, but not her capacity to love and be loved.  Until we meet again ….

Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Shirley’s name to the Alzheimers Society of Saskatchewan Inc. 301-2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.
