Bernice Gettle

Obituary of Bernice Margaret Gettle

Today we celebrate the life of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who battled a brief battle with cancer at the age of 85.  Bernice joins the Creator with family and friends who left before her; spouse Ernie Gettle; baby Theresa; her parents John B. and Florestine Desnomie; and her siblings Michael, Leo, Dorothy, Beatrice, John and little brother Marty. Bernice leaves to mourn her seven children Mark (Brenda), Denise (Loren), Deanna, Tracey, Murray (Leana), Nicole (Chuck), and Jason; thirteen grandchildren Marques, Michelle, Ryan, Nathan, Samantha, Ashley, Kyla, Shannon, Danielle, Phillip, Haylee, Sarah, Aislynn; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister Trish; and brothers Tommy and Maurice. Bernice was from the Peepeekisis First Nation and lived in Saskatchewan for most of her life. She fell in love and married Ernie Gettle in 1957 and relished over 50 years together. Bernice enjoyed being a mother and homemaker for her large family and spent her free time reading and playing cards and bingo.  She always cherished family gatherings.  We will all miss her dearly. The family offers much appreciation to the Aboriginal Home Care Team who provided nursing and social support for the past couple of years and Palliative Care Services at the Pasqua Hospital and Regina Wascana Grace Hospice.  Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. with Michelle Rohde officiating. A memorial come and go tea will follow in the Speers Family Centre.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bernice’s name to Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation, 2217 C Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 6A8. http://www.telemiracle.com/html/donateToday/index.cfm
