Obituary of Laura Clara Snider

LAURA CLARA SNIDER
1919 - 2017
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Laura Snider on Monday, August 14, 2017 at the age of 98 years. Predeceased by her parents, John and Clara Schill; husband Joseph; siblings: Fred, Wilfred, Rose, and Bertha; Laura is survived by her children: Mervyn (Myrna), Violet Lucyk, Lawrence (Hazel), Alvin (Betty), Delores (Jim) Goldstone, and Dwight (Gladys); grandchildren: Scott, Nadene, Nancy, Craig, Kirk, Bradley, Debbie, Kelly, Tammy, Jamie, Catherine, Charlene, Kimberley, Marnie, Dwayne, Pamela, and Rodney and their families; as well as numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. Laura was born on January 6, 1919, to John and Clara Schill.  She was raised on a farm, firstly near Gull Lake and later near Lebret.  Her six children were raised and schooled in Fort Qu’Appelle.  Laura worked as a cook at the local Prairie Christian Training Centre as well as the Valley Cafe.  She worked very hard and long hours to support and care for her children.  Mom was very modest and unpretentious and enjoyed the simple things in life.  She moved to Regina around 1963 where she worked at various other restaurants, including the Holiday Inn.  For the last 10 or 12 years of her career she worked at the RCMP Depot Officers Mess which she thoroughly enjoyed.  She met many Officers from across Canada who delighted in her culinary skills and quickly became very fond of her and her of them.  She met many dignitaries along the way.  She also had the honour of meeting Prince Philip and shaking hands and chatting with him – the highlight and most memorable part of her tenure with the Officers Mess.  She was a dedicated and loyal employee.  She retired at the age of 72.  In her younger years Laura enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and gardening.  Mom will be forever loved and cherished by her entire family.  ‘Til We Meet Again.
