Obituary of Elizabeth Ida Kerr

ELIZABETH (BETTY) IDA KERR

(née IRVINE)

March 16, 1931 - August 18, 2017

Betty passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2017. She was predeceased by her parents William (1985) and Eliza Isabela Irvine (1989), her husband Edward Kerr (1983), brother Gerald Irvine (1994), brother Bob Irvine (2012) and daughter Barbara (Joan) Miller (2013). Betty is survived by her son Bill Kerr (Pam) and granddaughter Yasmine; daughter Ellen McClughan (Neil) and grandson Scott; son-in-law Reg Miller and grandson Kevin Miller (Dorlisa), great-granddaughter Evangeline (Evie); granddaughter Heather Miller (Eddie McGee); sister Marion Schultz; sisters-in-law, Thelma Irvine and Irene Irvine; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was born in Young, SK living on a farm in the hills to the west. She went on to Teachers College and started teaching at Saline school near Nokomis. It was here she met Edward (Ed) Kerr who worked at the nearby PFRA pasture. They married November 7, 1951, and raised three children – Joan, William (Bill), and Ellen on the PFRA pasture at Hatfield, SK. Betty helped Ed with the pasture bookwork especially at “round up” time. She enjoyed belonging to the Hatfield Ladies Club and was also very involved in Brownies and Girl Guides. Betty and Ed lived at Hatfield until 1977 and then moved to Armstrong, BC. In 2012, Betty moved to Calgary and then moved to Regina in 2013 to Marion Chateau and a year later to Haven House Wintergreene, as more care was needed. Betty loved to travel and try new adventures such as Spanish school in Mexico. She travelled to England to visit Ellen and Neil and Argentina to visit brother Gerry and family. Other countries she conquered were Scotland, Ireland, Turkey, Costa Rica, Chile, New Zealand, Alaska, and Iceland to name a few. Betty loved to hike and belonged to the Naturalist club for hiking and birding in the Okanagan. She also loved to square dance and volunteer with the Legion. Betty was a very active lady until her health declined due to dementia. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301-2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1. Private Service will be held in Armstrong, BC at a later date.  A big thank you to the staff at the Haven House Wintergreene, who have provided excellent care for the past three years and especially in the last month.
