Obituary of Hans Werner Baumann

HANS WERNER BAUMANN

Hans passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. He is eternally reunited with his loving wife of 64 years Kunigunde Baumann. Hans was born March 24, 1926 to parents Julius and Bertha Baumann in Fallersleben Germany, one of seven brothers. An auto mechanic by trade, he worked in Fallersleben until he was drafted by the German Army in WWII. Hans continued to work on vehicles throughout his service and after the war.  In 1946, he met the love of his life Kunigunde Gross and they were married October 15, 1949.  Their first child Hans Jr. arrived the following year and the trio stayed in Germany until they immigrated to Canada in 1953 joining Gundi’s family who had left two years earlier. Having arrived in Regina, Hans found work immediately. Within the next fifteen years their second (Ingrid), third (Robert), and fourth (Martin) children followed. The consummate provider Hans spent the last 28 years of his career employed as a mechanic and equipment maintenance supervisor by the City of Regina.  Retirement years were well spent traveling to Hawaii, the cottage, gardening or helping any and all with their projects. Hans Baumann was a man of few needs but one, FAMILY.  He cherished his family and they cherished him. Hans will be remembered as a kind, quiet, humble soul who was generous with his time and gifts. Someone you heard humming and singing long before you saw him. Someone who will be sorely missed. Hans was able to spend sixty years at his Broder Street home before he moved. His last year was spent at the Gardiner Point Care Home, where he was under the loving care of the staff there. Hans is survived by his children, Hans (Nancy), Ingrid (Bart), Robert (Ingrid), Martin (Sheila); nine grandchildren; six (soon to be seven) great-grandchildren; brothers, Rolf (Marlis) and Heinz (Rosie); brother-in-law Peter Gross (Ursula); and sister-in-law Edith Gross. He was predeceased by his wife Kunigunde Baumann; parents; brothers, Herbert, Alfred, Adolph, and Helmut; great-grandson Marshall Knobben; best friend and brother-in-law Josef Gross; sister-in-law Mary Heidt; and brother-in-law Hans Heidt. Funeral Mass will be held at Little Flower Church, 420 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Jose Periyilkatte officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Hans may be made to the charity of your choice.
