Obituary of James Ainsley Griffin

JAMES AINSLEY GRIFFIN

February 29, 1924 – August 27, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jim Griffin after a sudden stroke at the age of 93. Jim was born in Yellowgrass, Saskatchewan and spent most of his childhood on a farm near Osage during the lean years of the Great Depression. After graduating from Grade XII at the age of 16, Jim obtained his teaching certificate and taught school until his 18 birthday. He then went off to World War II where he was a navigator on the Lancaster Bomber in the R.C.A.F. After the War, he attended law school at UBC and first practiced law at SGIO in Regina, articling to John Green. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Lois Haviland whom he was married to for 65 years. They had three children who survive Jim, Denise (Don) and her children, Stephen and Amy, Megan and her children, Ainsley and Cameron, Michael (Leslie) and their children, Laura, Sean and Ryan. Jim is also survived by his sister-in-law Margie and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Colina; brothers, Fred (Lillian) and Bruce; and sister Margo Hersche (Ambrose).  After practicing law at SGIO for 10 years, Jim went into private practice until his retirement in 2012. He truly enjoyed the practice of law and the many colleagues and clients he met because of it. Jim had numerous interests including travel, astronomy, farming, hunting, education, and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Jim will be greatly missed and never forgotten by all that knew him. A Celebration of Life will take place at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Special thanks to Dr. Gil Kriek for his care over the years and also to the Pasqua Hospital staff of Units ER, 4B and Palliative Care.
