DORIENNE VOLLHOFFER

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorienne Vollhoffer on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the age of 84. Dorienne, or “Dodie” to her friends and family, was a loyal and loving wife to Harold Vollhoffer and a dear and supportive mother to Troy Vollhoffer. Predeceased by her parents, Fran and May Moran and husband Harold, she leaves to mourn her death, her son Troy Vollhoffer (Nicole More) of Nashville; grandchildren Katarina of New York, Gabriella and Noah of Nashville; daughter-in-law Mary Kay Vollhoffer of Calgary; sister-in-law Terri Vollhoffer, brother-in-law Howard (Monica) Vollhoffer and sister-in-law Sharon (Terry) Schneider, all of Regina; and of course, many friends throughout North America. A pillar of strength in the Vollhoffer home, Dodie was not content to stay at home and be a housewife and mother. Rather, she set out to have her own career with the Government of Saskatchewan, enjoying her time in the office of Consumer and Corporate Affairs, where she thrived as a senior investigator. As much as she looked forward to her work on behalf of the people of Saskatchewan, her career was only her “day” job. Dodie’s nights and weekends were devoted to the family business, now known as Premier Global Production, based in Nashville, TN. For nearly three decades, starting in 1971, Dodie’s husband Harold was the production manager at Regina’s Centre of the Arts (now the Conexus Arts Centre), a job her father Fran helped him to get. No stranger to the world of show business, as her father had been the projectionist at Regina’s premier vaudeville style theatre, the Capitol, Dodie was quick to help out at Harold’s place of work, taking on costume and dressing room tasks for a wide variety of musical and theatrical acts. Of course, that often meant bringing along their son, Troy, to the theatre. Not surprisingly, at a very young age, Dodie’s only child also caught the entertainment bug. Quickly realizing the depth of Troy’s interest in entertainment, Dodie was determined to help him achieve success. Never shy about sharing her opinion, Dodie shaped and supported the entrepreneurial efforts of Troy and Harold and their employees to build their successful business. A benefit of the business was the travel and Dodie loved to see what the world had to offer. Whether it was Germany or Las Vegas, or even Medicine Hat, Dodie embraced the opportunity to meet new people and form new friendships. After Harold’s death, Dodie continued to travel with her many friends and reveled in each new adventure. Dodie’s many passions did not end with the business. An avid sports fan, she spent many hours in hockey rinks in and around Regina, watching Troy play the “world’s fastest game.” Once he graduated to the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades, she was quick to jump in the car to see him play at various arenas in Western Canada. Similarly, when Troy advanced to professional hockey, Dodie could be found in any number of U.S. arenas, veraciously cheering on her boy as only she could. Also a fan of football, Dodie was a life-long Saskatchewan Roughrider season ticket holder. From the early 1970s into the early 2000s, she made the short trek from her Cathedral-area home to Taylor Field to watch her beloved Green and White in the “west side” stands rain or shine. Dodie lived most of her adult life in the Cathedral-area. She loved her neighbourhood’s proximity to downtown and patronized its many small businesses throughout the years. A devout Catholic, Dodie could often be found in her neighbourhood’s namesake, Holy Rosary Cathedral, where she found peace and solace with each and every visit, a welcomed and much needed retreat from her busy and full life. It is in this very same Cathedral that we invite her friends and family to celebrate her life one last time on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Dodie’s family, especially her son Troy, would like to thank the staff at Regina’s Royal Oaks Care Home for their many years of devotion and service. You truly made her life the best it could possibly be in her later years.
