Obituary of Laura Isabel Champ

LAURA ISABEL CHAMP

January 10, 1920 – September 14, 2017

 Laura died peacefully on Thursday, September 14, 2017, at the age of 97 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband, William Alexander Champ, on February 27, 1995; parents, Theodore and Elizabeth Hutchings; older brother Ted; younger sister Ruth; and Bill’s siblings, Betty, Bob, Warren, Barbara, and Barry. Laura is survived by her son Brian (Betty) Champ and their children, Cherie (Rosario) Chiodo, Troy (Michelle) Champ, and Kevin (Lindsay Doell) Champ; and her daughter Paula (Leonard) Meeres and their son, Alexander (Kelli) Meeres. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Carina and Damion Chiodo, Ashley and Britney Champ, Avery and Breanna Champ, and Owen Ebel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Laura was born in Alberta, but lived in many locales in Canada, as her father was often transferred with the R.C.M.P.  She settled in Regina as a young woman and spent the remainder of her life here. Laura worked most of her adult life as a private secretary, culminating in her position as secretary to four Lieutenant-Governors of Saskatchewan. She was a busy volunteer, most particularly with the church and the Canadian Diabetes Association. Laura was named Volunteer of the Year for the Regina and District Branch of the Canadian Diabetes Association in 1997. She was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal in 1997 and the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 for her volunteer work and service to the Government. The family expresses its sincere thanks to the dedicated management and staff members of College Park I and Helping Hands Care Group for their loving care over the past two years. A Memorial Service will take place at St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church, 3337 - 15th Avenue, Regina, SK, on Friday, October 13, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Canon Claude Schroeder officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Laura may be made to St. Mary’s Anglican Church, 3337 - 15th Avenue, Regina, SK  S4T 1T3; Diabetes Canada, 917A Albert Street, Regina, SK S4R 2P6; or to a charity of choice.
