Obituary of Helen Madeline Sperling

HELEN MADELINE SPERLING (née HARTMANN)

August 7, 1920 - October 31, 2017

Helen passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Pioneer Village with her niece, Diane, by her side. She was born and raised in Regina. She grew up in the east end and attended St. Joseph School along with her siblings. She met the love of her life, Frank, at St. Mary’s Church on Winnipeg Street and their faith remained a focal point during their 50 years of marriage. Helen and Frank were inseparable. After bowling their way to a number of trophies at the Victoria Club, they spent four decades square dancing their way across North America which included dancing for Queen Elizabeth at the Legislature, Buffalo Days festivities and seniors’ homes. Throughout Helen’s life, she had an enormous impact on the families of her brothers and sisters, developing special relationships with all of her nieces and nephews regardless of the geographical distance between them. She was predeceased by her parents, Christina and Joseph; husband Frank; brothers John, Jake, Otto, and Tony; sisters Betty and Terry; and nephew John. Helen is survived by nieces Diane (Brian) Douglas, Janice (Greg) Niwa, and Karen (Ian) Spiers; nephews Bryan (Dona) Hartman and Roy (Brenda) Hartmann; as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews. Memorial Service to be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held in Riverside Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank the staff of Pioneer Village 4West for the care given to Helen during her stay. The dedication, kindness, compassion, and respect you have demonstrated throughout her journey is extraordinary and we are very grateful. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan, 2550 - 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.
