Peter Gross

Obituary of Peter George Gross

Peter passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. Fleeing postwar Europe, Peter arrived in Canada at the age of 16 and was reunited with his family in Saskatchewan. The very next day, Peter started working outdoors as a labourer in the cold Saskatchewan winter. Through hard work, and with the support of his friend and mentor Ewald Jost, in 1956 he established a plumbing company in rural Saskatchewan.  Their families grew up side by side as neighbours in the city and at the lake, and they share four generations of memories together.  With Ewald’s encouragement, Peter went on to found Welldone Plumbing and Heating in Regina with his long-time friend and business partner Bob Stevenson.  Their legacy still can be seen around the city in the form of eye-catching bright green trucks, which Peter chose personally. When not working, Peter had a great love for family and the outdoors.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  These interests led him to build a cottage at Echo lake and he could often be found there with his family.  He and a band of brothers built Ladgmos Lodge in northern Saskatchewan and both are a lasting legacy for bringing his family and friends together. The family and friends are saddened by his passing but at peace knowing he is with his parents and siblings after a long battle with Parkinson’s.  He is survived by Ursula, his devoted loving wife of 60 years; his three children Berny (Jackie), Monica and Sandra (Murray); grandchildren Sarah, Sean, Alexandra, Noah, Adam and Samuel; great-granddaughter Carmel, as well as in-laws, nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends. Peter will always be remembered for his unfailing generosity, humorous one-liners, and his humble spirit. When asked for anything, his automatic response would be a modest “I’ll try” and then he would go out of his way to make it happen. In honour of the way he lived his life, please consider going out of your way to give someone a hand who needs it, bring flowers to brighten someone’s day, or tell someone how much they mean to you just as Peter always did. Funeral Mass will be held at Resurrection R.C. Parish, 3155 Windsor Park Road, Regina, SK on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. If you are unable to attend there will be a live streaming and archive of the service at resurrectionparish.ca under the name Peter Gross. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Parkinson’s Canada Year End Matching Gift Campaign at www.parkinson.ca in the name of Peter Gross. The family would like to thank our extended family at Victoria Park Personal Care Home for the love and support they gave to Peter in his last years.
