Dear Aunty Evelyn, Weng Khan, Chooi Ping, Chooi Li and Anush,
Words cannot fully express how sad we are to know that Uncle Wah Lean has passed away. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time of loss. Please accept our heartfelt condolences.
Uncle’s departure will leave a big vacuum in the lives of many of his loved ones. We will miss him very much.
Uncle was a great man and clearly an immense pillar of support to you all over the years. He has done wonderfully well despite the odds, and together with you, Aunty, bringing up three well educated and loving children. He has also been blessed with a good son-in-law and 2 beautiful grandchildren in Henry and George.
Allen and I had the privilege of getting to know Uncle better when we went traveling together in Canada and when he visited us in KL and Australia. During our time together, we were so enthralled by stories of his younger days being a POW, challenging the authorities during his University days, fighting for Malaya’s independence, and his successful struggle to make Canada his new home. His clear articulation of history will forever be ingrained in our minds. He has been an inspiration to us with his “can-do attitude” which only strengthens our love and admiration for him.
We know that nothing we say can ever ease the pain of losing the one you love. Death always causes pain and heartaches but love leaves a memory that no one can steal. And when someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure. Take care, Aunty, Weng Khan, Chooi Ping, Chooi Li and Santosh. Enjoy the memories. God bless you all.
Uncle indeed had a remarkable life. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
