Obituary of Gwendoline Mary Wright
Gwendoline entered this world on April 13, 1918 and she passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 14, 2017. She was born in Regina, SK to English parents Thomas William and Esther Jane Wright who had immigrated to Canada. Gwen grew up in Craven, SK where her dad worked as a Blacksmith, and her mother Esther Jane was a homemaker caring for Gwen and her older brother Francis known as Frank. As children, she and Frank spent many hours fishing at the local dam. At the age of 21, Gwen who never married, found permanent and full time employment in Regina, at John Deere Tractor. She started with them in September of 1939, and during her 40 years with the company, she held many positions including Telephone Order Clerk, Credit Research Clerk, Secretary, and Parts Expediter. Her time with the company also included a transfer to Winnipeg, MB for seven years in the early 1960’s. Gwen’s mother passed away in Regina, in 1965. Her brother and father moved with her to Winnipeg where her dad passed away in 1967. At the end of those seven years, she and Frank returned to Regina where she continued to work with John Deere until her retirement in January of 1980. Gwen continued to care for Frank until his death in 1996. Following his death, Gwen took to travelling, and when she wasn’t visiting friends in Winnipeg, she saw the world by cruise ship and always had a lovely story to share. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting and needlework. Her wish was to lie in state at St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, 1861 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, the day before her service so there will be a Public Visitation there on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with The Very Reverend Mike Sinclair presiding. Interment in Regina Memorial Gardens. Gwen was a long time member and the oldest parishioner of St. Paul’s. At her request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your own church or favorite charity.
“Rest in Peace Gwen, you will be so deeply missed.”
