Obituary of Maxine Thelma Walters
MAXINE WALTERS (NÉE SJOSTRAND)
SEPTEMBER 18, 1922 - JANUARY 19, 2018
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Maxine Walters announces the passing of a devoted mother, beloved grandmother, and loving great-grandmother. We also celebrate her wonderful 95 years of life. Maxine was born in Midale, Saskatchewan on September 18, 1922, third of six children to Andrew and Christina Sjostrand. She was raised on the family homestead in Midale, Sask. She went on to further her education at Normal School in Moose Jaw, receiving her Teaching Certificate and later in life, through countless hours burning the mid-night candle, her Teaching Degree. She then moved to Melville, Sask. to continue her profession where she met and married Harold Walters. Together they raised three daughters, Gayle, Connie and Brenda. Maxine had a passion for teaching and spent the majority of her years teaching young children at Central School and Davidson School in Melville. She retired in the summer of 1982. She was a loving and highly respected teacher. Church was very important in her life. She spent countless hours volunteering in the many capacities of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She liked meeting with her friends, reading, needlework and volunteering on many Boards in Melville. The summers spent at the family cottage at Crooked Lake stirred up many memorable times. Maxine had eye for fashion and there was never a time when her hair or her make up were not done before she headed out each day. While missing her will be a heartache that never goes away, remembering her each day will come easy. Maxine is survived by her brother Roy (Marlene) Sjostrand; daughters Gayle (Ken) Tomchuk, Connie Neid, and Brenda (Gordon) Herman; her seven grandchildren Michael (Sonia) Tomchuk, Mathew Tomchuk, Garett Neid, Natalie Neid, Dylan Neid, Mitchell (Alia) Herman, and Stephanie (Joel) Domansky; and her great-grandson Nash Tomchuk. She was predeceased by her husband Harold Walters; her brother Ed Sjostrand; her sisters Edith Tait, Lynne Saunderson, Elsie Jaques; and her parents Christina and Andrew Sjostrand. Her family is very grateful to the staff and administration of Muchmor Lodge for their dedication, compassion, love, care, and kindness given to our mother over the 10 years she was with them. Respecting her wishes, we will celebrate her life at her gravesite in Melville, Sask. later this summer.
