Obituary of Doreen Theresa Legrand

DOREEN THERESA LEGRAND

It is with sadness and heartbreak that our best friend and dear mother, Doreen, completed her life’s journey on Friday, February 16, 2018.  She was predeceased by husband Raymond; parents, John and Christina Tkach; siblings, Leonard Tkach and Harvey Tkach; and in-laws Aurele and Marie-Anne Legrand. Doreen will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Sandra LeGrand (Roger Goddu) and Arlene (Leslie) Schlosser; granddaughter Kienna Schlosser; and sisters-in-law, Georgette Fowler and Lorraine Courchesne (Gilles). Doreen was born on September 22, 1933 to John and Christina Tkach (Mrazek). She attended Heavyland School in Patrick, SK. As a young woman, she worked for Revenue Canada in Regina. It was during this time that she met and married the love of her life Raymond Legrand in 1953 and moved to the farm in Qu’Appelle, SK to begin her married life. Doreen and Raymond worked hard to make the farm a success.  In 1963 they welcomed a daughter Sandra, followed by a second daughter Arlene in 1968. Mom was a wonderful homemaker and spent many hours in her huge garden tending to crops of fresh vegetables and a vigorous raspberry patch. Saskatoon and pincherries were abundant and mom always made jellies and jams for us to enjoy. She had some great recipes and her flapper pie was a favorite of many. Mom loved and cared for many of the animals on the farm as well. In 1980 they moved their home to the town of Qu’Appelle where she enjoyed her neighbors and friends.  After Raymond passed away suddenly in 1984, mom decided to make a move to Regina in 1986 to be closer to her girls. In 2005 mom was delighted to welcome her only grandchild Kienna Schlosser. Kienna was Grammy’s shining light and was her greatest treasure in life. Doreen will be remembered by family and friends for her kind, and gentle personality, her devotion and generosity to her family and the knowledge and wisdom she shared. Her faith in God and the Blessed Virgin Mary was strong until her final moments of her life. Doreen’s family wishes to thank the medical staff at both of the Regina General and Pasqua Hospitals for the fine care mom received there. Also, the Seniors Housecall Program, the Palliative Care Nurses who visited and cared for mom at home and the EMS who attended to her.  Our heartfelt thanks to Fr. Arpee and Fr. Rick Krofchek for their visits while mom was in hospital.  It meant so much to her and to us to have your prayers.  And to the family and friends of Doreen who offered their love and support during this difficult time, your thoughtfulness is appreciated.  In respect of Doreen’s wishes there will be no funeral service.
