Hello Norine
I was shocked and saddened to hear about Greg . I have many memories of Greg and the rest of the Schmaltz family starting back when they constructed their cottage beside ours and then later , for not enough years, all of the good times we shared waterskiing, card games , horseshoes and may a bonfire .

Norine and family I am so sorry to hear of Greg's passing. I have so many memories of him and his love of people. From your first Christmas in Wilcox and Becky was only a few months old and Greg was convinced to be Santa Claus on Christmas Eve and visited all the homes with small children and older senior citizens to bring some Christmas cheer to them. To teaching me as a high school student to give your best effort in every hockey game you played and to develop a love of geometry. To being a mentor and friend to me when I had the opportunity to teach with him at Notre Dame. Greg packed a lot of living and accomplishments into a short period of time. Norine, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Greg left us far too early. He was a great friend to me, especially when I first arrived at Notre Dame and he took me under his wing. Noreen and the kids were also great contributors to my early days at ND and their generosity in retrospect was amazing. I was welcomed to the family cottage, skiing and getting to know all the Schmalz family. I have very fond memories of his mom and dad from those days. Cec payed off a bet I won with him when the Tigers won the World Series with pennies!
My memories of him doing so much for his family, skate sharpening, painting houses, driving the school bus had a lasting effect on me. He was a true friend who helped my many times.He was the M/C at my wedding.
He was a great Hound, the influence of Pere, Father Bauer, Bill Liskowitch, Frank and many others helped build his character.
Maybe the best thing he did was struggle in high school and get sent to ND where he met Norrine!
