Wendy Kelly

Obituary of Wendy Lee Kelly

KELLY, Wendy Lee (Fordham) Passed away peacefully with family at her side on April 5, 2018 after a lengthy illness and courageous battle. Born in Moose Jaw, Sk., Wendy began a lifetime of dedicated volunteerism at the age of 8, working alongside her dad growing vegetables for those in need and helping elderly farmers care for their homesteads. At the age of 12, Wendy began volunteering at the Moose Jaw Training School for children and adults with special needs. Throughout high school, Wendy played sports and managed sporting teams, was a part of the SRC and a member of Job's Daughters. In her free time, Wendy had a variety of jobs including selling popcorn, ladies wear, Red Cross swimming instruction and playground supervisor. After high school, Wendy graduated from the Regina General Hospital at the age of 19 and began her 18-year career in nursing, specializing in both hospital and office care and teaching Red Cross Home Nursing to teens and adults. In her spare time, Wendy became interested in marketing, advertising, directing and production, producing several television commercials and consulting with the Eaton's Company as their only outside marketing representative in all of Canada. Wendy then changed careers and began in management, working for five different companies in a variety of roles, primarily in the Dairy industry where she gained considerable knowledge in agriculture, legislation and lobbying. As a lifetime volunteer & fundraiser, Wendy committed her efforts to the Regina Humane Society, Canadian Diabetes Foundation, the Regina Symphony, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Arthritis Society, Canadian Western Agribition and the Royal Red. She also served on a number of Boards, both national and local, including Sask Food Processor's Association, VIA Rail Canada, REAL (Evraz Place (Chair), Access Communications (Chair) and was the first woman in Canada appointed to a CFL Team management committee at the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club. Wendy loved the Riders, serving as the Team Nurse for seven years and volunteering for a number of Team endeavours including 10 Ladies Nights, co-producing the '95 Grey Cup Parade & half-time Show, production manager for the 101st Grey Cup Gala Dinner and Chair of the Plaza of Honour Committee in 2012. In her lifetime, Wendy produced more than 1000 fashion shows - both commercial and fundraising efforts, fostering her commitment to youth, the community and fashion. In all areas of her life, Wendy believed in service and always felt that "the world must have begun in a place like Saskatchewan, for it is here where we cherish what it is to be a human being". Predeceased by her father and best friend, William Selby, her mother Ann Tietje-Fordham, mother-in-law Delia Kelly and father-in-law Kevin Kelly, Wendy will be lovingly remembered and desperately missed by her husband Pat, brother Brent (Irene) Fordham, cousins Vern Fordham, Murray Fordham and Carrie Mantei, brother-in-law Gerry (Leanne) Kelly, sister-in-law Geraldine (Keith) Dow, niece Erin (Michael) Symcox, nephews Craig (Meagan) Dow, Gabriel Kelly, Daniel Kelly and great nieces and nephews: Jordan, Samantha, Jackson and Simon. Wendy dearly loved her family, friends and forever Pat. There are angels on earth and the Family would like to thank Dr. J.S. McMillan and Caren Godin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mother Teresa Middle School or the North Central Family Centre. A Celebration for Wendy's Family, Friends, Coworkers & Co-Volunteers will be held at 3:30 p.m. on April 21, 2018 in Queensbury at Evraz Place.
