Obituary of Helen Marie Bidd
BIDD, Helen Marie
The death of Helen Marie Bidd, age 93, occurred on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the Regina General Hospital. We give thanks to God for the gift of our mother’s life and of her husband and our blessed father, Harry Edward Bidd, who died in 1990. Helen is survived by three children, Edward, Donald (Glenda), and Marie (Richard) Edwards; four grandchildren, Isaace, Veneta, Steven (Kelsey), and Justin; and one great-grandchild Lillian. Our parents, who met during their studies at the University of Saskatchewan and married a year after graduation, had a great sacrificial love for their family. They brought us up in the faith in the Lord, and caring always for us, supporting us in achieving educational and professional goals, to live life with courage and love. Helen loved her vocation as a teacher, and in particular imparting a joy of reading, which helped many of her students achieve success in their careers and in their personal lives. Our mother gave generously of her time and love to the Catholic Church. She was a greeter and choir member at Mass at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Saskatoon, an active member of the Catholic Women’s League, a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women, Saskatoon Branch (CFUW: Equality for Women and Girls), a volunteer assisting newcomers to Canada, and a volunteer at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, where she accompanied young children with cancer and other life-threatening medical conditions. Helen recalled with great affection a seven-year-old boy with cancer, whom she visited often before his death. This young boy said to her, “I love you very much Helen and I know you love me. And my parents love you. When I am in God’s house I will tell Him all about you. I will be with you every day.” Now, our dear Mother is there in God’s house and is with us in our hearts. Our mother and father set the example to us and many others of how to live life with integrity, with hope and with selflessness. May we be blessed by them in our earthly journey, until we join them in the joy of eternal life. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Cecilia’s R.C. Church, 5020 7th Avenue, Regina, SK on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. celebrated by Reverend John Weckend. Following the Mass, the family invites friends and parishioners to join us at the reception at St. Cecilia’s Parish hall. The burial service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1502 2nd Avenue, Saskatoon, SK on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Right Reverend Denis Phaneuf.
