Obituary of Maria Wald

Our beloved mother and Oma passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the age of 88 years. Mom was predeceased by her husband Ambrose and son-in-law John Cormier.  She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Irene, Christine, and Joseph. Oma's memory will live on in each of her five grandchildren, Marie (Jason), Cecile (Blair), Suzanne (Jon), Jessica (Silver), and Kirk (Jennifer) and her eight great-grandchildren, Erika, Lauren, Cameron, Ana, Elias, Josie, Lexi, and Leo. Mother was born in Wiesengrund on May 9, 1930 in what was then Czechoslovakia, the only child of Josef and Margareta Baier. At the age of 16, she and her family were displaced and became refugees in Germany, following the war. However, mother 'found love' and followed her sweetheart to Canada in 1953. She arrived in Regina in September and found a job at the Grey Nuns Hospital Laundry and got married all in the same month. Mother's fondest times were spent in her garden. She still planted a garden at age 85. Mother's illness forced her to relocate to College Park II and she soon called it home. She missed cooking for her children. Mom and dad enjoyed many road trips with friends over the years and Hawaii was a yearly pleasure. The family would like to thank the Dialysis Unit and 6F staff at the Regina General Hospital, who cared for mother and brought comfort in her last days. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross R.C. Church, 315 Douglas Avenue East, Regina, SK on Friday June 1, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. The family gratefully request that donations be made to the Saskatchewan Kidney Foundation, 1-2217 Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, SK S7L 6A8.
