Obituary of Jeremy Campbell

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that my family announces the passing of my amazing little brother Jeremy after a tragic slip and fall accident while he was at a hot spring on the Island of Hokkaido in the north of Japan.

Jeremy attended Dr. A.E. Perry School and Sheldon Williams Collegiate where he was a finalist in provincial spelling bees and geography challenges. Following two years of study at the University of Regina, his passion for travel began with enrollment in the Explore Program where he ventured to Québec City to learn French. He continued to reside there for several years while perfecting his French, teaching English and studying at Université Laval. Jeremy then journeyed through Europe with nothing more than the bare essentials and a tent. He believed in the Zen philosophy of simplicity. With his love of languages in tow, Jeremy ventured to Sanya, a small tropical island in China to teach English and master Mandarin. After a brief return to Canada in late 2017, his adventures took him to Niseko, Japan where he worked at a ski resort and had goals to become fluent in Japanese. Jeremy believed in social harmony and dreamt of a world void of monetary reliance. He called this "Humanity Share," which focused on an exchange of services as a form of currency. He was active politically, supporting social causes and fighting for equal access and opportunity. For those who got to know Jeremy or even just knew of him, you'll know he was a free spirit who loved travelling the world and sharing his love for life and humanity and desire to make the world a better place. We'll always remember his incredibly positive nature and his contagious ability to make friends wherever he went. Jeremy's life will forever be celebrated by his countless friends, and family members, including his mother and stepfather, Shelley and Michael Rankin, his father Bruce Campbell and stepmother Sonya Guiboche, his siblings Stephanie and Zachary, and his grandparents Lois and Robert Gilmour. 

A celebration of Jeremy's life will be held on Tuesday, July 24th at Christ Lutheran Church - 4825 Dewdney Ave. Adjacent to Government House. Enter into the parking lot on the east side of the church. The service will start at 2:00 pm and will be followed by a reception. Attire is casual and colourful. All are welcome to attend and celebrate this amazing man's life among friends and family.

For those that got to know Jeremy or even just knew of him, you’ll know he was a free spirit who loved travelling the world and sharing his love for life and humanity and had a true desire to make the world a better place. I’ll always remember his incredibly positive nature, passion and ability to make people smile and laugh.

One thing that I’ve been constantly looking at over these past few days is his couchsurfing profile, and reading what he wrote to describe himself along with the countless wonderful and amazing references people wrote for him that he met during his travels.
