Obituary of Angele Marie Louise Brundige

BRUNDIGE, Angele

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Angele Marie Louise Brundige (née Pantel) on Monday, July 16, 2018. Angele slipped away peacefully in her own bed at College Park II, early in the day. She was predeceased by her husband Jerry Brundige; her parents, Yvonne and Privat Pantel; brothers, Jules (Louise) Pantel and Clement Pantel; sisters, Celine (Auguste) Comte, Therese (Joseph) Comte, Lucie (Maurice) Boisvert, and Jeanne (Maurice) Fouasse; sisters-in-law, Gladys (Clare) Green, Irene (Jim) Llewellyn, and Alma Brundige; and brother-in-law Mel (Madeleine) Brundige Sr. Of a large family of seven she was the middle child but was the last surviving member of the family. Angele lived her 102 years with style and grace. Everyone who met her will always recall her enchanting French accent, the style in which she lived her life, and the joy and passion with which she greeted each day. Born on the family farm near Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB on March 2, 1916 to Yvonne and Privat Pantel, Angele received numerous academic awards while attending school. She became the first in her family to attend high school, where she boarded for four years with the Ursuline nuns. Upon graduation, Angele moved to Brandon, MB to attend normal school, where she obtained her teaching certificate. She taught for several years in a one room school house at Ecole St. Adelard near Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB from 1933 to 1941. In 1941, Angele moved to Saskatchewan and a career change after the death of her fiancé to train to become an X-ray technician. In 1944, she was certified as the 45th technician in Canada, and worked throughout her career at the Grey Nuns Hospital, becoming the head of the department. Angele wrote her American exams and was hired to qualify to work at Memorial Hospital Rochester New York. But she never left Regina, instead marrying Jerry Brundige in 1947. They had a happy life together for 50 years raising two children, Yvonne and David. They filled their evenings playing bridge and socializing with their many friends and visiting with their numerous nephews and nieces, who dropped by to share one of Angele’s elaborate meals. Angele was a Catholic Women’s League member since 1956.  She was also a lifelong avid duplicate bridge player, often teaching classes to grow the Regina Duplicate Bridge Club. Angele was also an American Contract Bridge League Life Master. Angele lived to the wonderful age of 102 and was independent for 99 years of her life. She is survived by her daughter Yvonne; son David (Carol); granddaughters, Carli Brundige Gotchia (Richard), Chelsey Ayres (Spencer), and Jane Brundige (Addison Docherty); and great-granddaughter Liv James Brundige Gotchia.
