Jack - started early enjoying life. To our family this is how we want to remember Jack, along with hours drifting the northern rivers or hot basketball games.

Jack was a treasured friend of our entire family. My father, Wallace Cutforth, taught with Jack back in the 1950's in Swan River, Manitoba. We moved to Brandon, and over the years Jack would pop in unannounced on his way somewhere, often staying overnight, camping on our living room floor. When I got married in the early 80's in England, mom suggested asking Jack to give the "toast to the bride" as not too many others we could think of would jump at the chance to travel all the way to the U.K. to do that! But Jack did, and the next year, repeated the honour for my sister Carol back in Winnipeg. Years later, we had the chance to take our own kids to visit Saskairie with Jack, who found out my daughter loved horses, so brought us around to a local farmer who let her ride one of his. Visits with Jack were always rich in friendship, and often contained unexpected adventures.
May his friends and family be encouraged by remembering all the good that Jack brought into their lives, and the lives of countless others during his time on earth. God bless!

Jack taught me at the Elementary School and University level here in Regina.
He was always friendly and interested in everyone he met. I also saw him several times during my teaching and substitute teaching career. His belief in fitness and the value of outdoor education will always be remembered and cherished.

On behalf of the Sundown Optimist Club, I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Jack's family, friends and to the thousands of children in his "extended" family. Until this year he never missed our Optimist Oratorical speak offs at both the school and club levels. The Optimist motto is "Friend of Youth" and Jack certainly exemplified this throughout his life. We are going to miss you Jack.

Jack was introduced to me at Knox Met by a former friend, Debra Burnett. Debra had an obvious love for Jack, so it was easy for me to fall in love with him by watching how well he treated my friend. His kindness sparkled. His eyes always held light. He usually remembered who I was whenever I spoke to him even though we rarely had long conversations. He just remembers people after brief encounters. Incredible. Jack is one of the most loving, caring, incredible people I have ever met in my short life. 70 years seems like a heartbeat compared to the 90 years Jack suffered the slings and arrows of this crazy world. He never gave up on us, even when there was an incredible amount of evidence that we still didn't get it. He is a shining star and he will shine on us whether we deserve it or not. R.I.P. Jack. You are loved.

My deepest condolences to Jack's family. Jack was quite the guy. When I worked at the School Board Jack got us all up in the Conference Room doing exercises - some of us more than others. I also remember at Christmas time Jack sending gifts out to BC for the little ones, it was always just a few days before Christmas. He was always a busy man.

Mr. MacKenzie was a wonderful role model to all of those whose path crossed with his. I met Jack on multiple occasions while I attended Jack MacKenzie School right when it opened. He attended most of all of our recitals, sports games, field trips, and all of the in betweens. He made all of us at Jack MacKenzie School feel like one big family. I truly believe that his devotion to the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation helped myself, along with my classmates, see the goodness in being kind to everyone you meet. I am so grateful for having known Mr. MacKenzie and I am deeply sorry to his family and our community for their loss.

Jack was a dedicated hard working educator. I was fortunate to work with him when he was a consultant for the Regina Board of Education. Jack wanted all students to learn to appreciate and care for the environment. He was knowledgeable about every animal and plant that lived on the prairies. When we both retired, I met him at the pool, in between laps we would reminisce about the "old teaching days" which he talked about fondly. He was a wonderful human being and I will be forever grateful to have known him.

So many in Regina and beyond were warmed and taught by Jack through all he did for the school district and in the community. Jack was a wonderful man, to whose virtues and humanity we can all aspire. Our condolences to his family and friends, and to the school district which loses such a resource. The pupils in his school, past and present, will miss him greatly. Such a mentor lost!

When I served on the Regina Board of Education, I met Mr. MacKenzie on numerous occasions. Age had not dampened his enthusiasm for learning, especially the learning that happens outdoors, and that enthusiasm was highly contagious. It was an honour to have known him, even briefly and formally. He may be gone, but his influence will carry on through his students and colleagues.

I didn't teach with Jack but I knew him for many years. I first met him many years ago when he was fund-raising for Saskairie. He was so devoted to nature and worked with students to give them the knowledge and experiences he loved. He made a huge contribution to the Regina Public School System and its students.
Blessings on a life well lived.
