Leo and family, please accept my deepest sympathies for the loss of Carol. She was a wonderful person and will always have a special place in my heart and my memories.
Carol and I worked together for more than 25 years and she was certainly a true professional. As my secretary, Carol kept me organized, to the extent anyone can organize me, and acted as an assistant to me in so many ways. My fellow heads of corrections/deputy ministers across Canada often commented to me about her high level of knowledge and professionalism during their telephone contacts with her over many, many years. She was totally up to speed on every issue in corrections and demonstrated a deep understanding of those issues. Within our corrections branch, and later within the Department of Justice, and ultimately throughout the senior civil service group, Carol was recognized as the ultimate authority on office procedures/grammar, punctuation and writing styles. She took such pride in her work and would not tolerate mediocrity.
On a personal note, Carol was also a good friend and confidant. When I went through difficult times i.e. prison riot, family tragedy, etc. Carol was always there with kind support and wise counsel. She was a very important part of my life and I will miss her.
I know that you and your entire family will miss her greatly but will always have wonderful memories of many happy years together.
