Obituary of Eileen Nurse

NURSE, Eileen Margaret

It is with sadness and gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Eileen Margaret Nurse (née Dryden) on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at the age of 98. Eileen was predeceased by parents Annie Jemina (née Fraser) and William Robert Dryden; siblings Martin, Myrtle, Gordon, Lila, Ethel, Verna, Dorothy, Roberta, Donald, and John; and husband Melvin Nurse. Eileen is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Eileen was born on March 22, 1920, in Virden, Manitoba. After completing high school in Virden, Eileen graduated as a registered nurse from Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Eileen’s career as a nurse included serving in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II and practicing at Indian Head and Fillmore, Saskatchewan hospitals. Eileen married Mel on October 25, 1958, and together they made a home in Fillmore. Following Mel’s death Eileen moved to Regina in 1999, where she developed many new and lasting friendships.

Eileen was a mentor to many in healthcare and in life. She was a strong woman who believed in the importance of hard work, common sense, friendship and fun. Eileen enjoyed travelling over the years with Mel, and with family and friends. She was an avid bridge player and she liked to follow many sports, including tennis, baseball and curling.

Eileen was loved and admired by many who will miss her greatly. Eileen’s family and friends would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff of Grace Hospice for their dedicated care of Eileen in her final days and sincere gratitude to Dr. Peter van Rooyen and Dr. James McHattie for their many years of excellent medical care.
