Obituary of Rudolph Alfred Lustig

Rudy’s family announces his peaceful passing in Lumsden, Saskatchewan, on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the age of 94 years.  He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Madeline (Maddy); parents Josef and Rosalie; in-laws, Michael and Katherine Rochert; his siblings, Joe (Anne) Lustig, Hilda (William) Bennett, Josie (Hugh) Seeley; nephews David Seeley, Douglas Bennett and Lawrence Mushka; nieces Sherry Bennett and Kathy Lustig; and great niece Lisa Lustig; Madeline’s siblings, John (Coogie) Rochert, Max (Cis) Rachert, Mike (Carol) Rachert, and Anne (Phil) Duke. Rudy will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his children, Cecile (Edgar) Matysio, Rodney (Nadine), Renee Dwyer, and Marilyn (Mike McEwen); his cherished grandchildren, Amy, Sarah, and John Matysio, Erika and Mark Lustig, Patrick and Rebecca Dwyer, and Connor and Miera McEwen. He also leaves to mourn many dear nieces and nephews and their families. Rudy was born on the farm between Disley and Bethune on November 6, 1924. He married Maddy in 1959, and together they raised their children on the family farm. Rudy was a good dancer, a quietly humble man and had a farmer’s keen interest in nature and instant affection for animals and children, especially those smallest and most vulnerable. Rudy loved to watch prairie storms, listen to the rain fall and smell newly ploughed earth. He was a devoted son, brother and uncle, then a grateful and committed husband, father and grandfather. He supported his family, his community, the Riders and his church until the end. Special thanks to his many loving caregivers at the Lumsden and District Heritage Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Lumsden, Saskatchewan with interment at Bethune Cemetery with Father Gaspar Lucas presiding at a later date. If anyone so desires, donations may be made in Rudy’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK S4P 2R3; the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1738 Quebec Avenue, Unit 26, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9; the Lumsden Heritage Home, Box 479, Lumsden, SK S0G 3C0; or a charity of choice.

“We love you, too, Grandpa, and good night.”
