Obituary of Steve Katchan

It is with great sadness the family announces the unexpected passing of Steve Katchan on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the age of 89 years old. Steve was born in Nipawan, SK and in his early years he lived in Choiceland, Prince Albert, Hazeldell and Nelson, BC. In 1942, the family moved to Regina where he attended Thompson Elementary school and graduated from Balfour Tech. He married Gladys Watson, November 10, 1951. Steve worked in the auto-body industry and was well known for his craft.  Upon his retirement he was very active cycling, gardening and collecting antiques. Steve could never resist a good garage sale or auction, everything was a treasure that needed a home. He loved his dogs and was fond of all animals.  Steve was predeceased by his wife Gladys (1993); sister-in-law Edna Watson; parents Paul and Annie Katchan (emigrated from the Ukraine); brothers and sisters-in-law Tony and Marion Katchan and Leon and Helen Katchan; brother Bill (in infancy); and sister and brother-in-law Mary and Joe Sinclair. He leaves to mourn his nieces and nephews, David Katchan, Delois Katchan, Annette Katchan-Ripplinger (Dale Ripplinger), Ron Katchan (Andrea Youck), Linda (Ward) Perozuk, Marion and Bert Harty; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Regina Humane Society, Box 3143, Regina, SK, S4P 3G7.
