Obituary of Barry Lachlan McVey

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barry McVey at the age of 67. He is survived by his wife Joanne of 44 years and his three daughters and their husbands: Seonaid and Jeff Wittig, Hilary and Adrian Echtner, and Kristin and Chad Bakke. Barry is also survived by his mother, Phyllis McVey-Forcier and will be greatly missed by his 10 grandchildren: Tyler, Matthew, Katie, Katie Wittig, Skyler Wittig, Sydney, Camryn, Brooklyn, Meredith, and Benjamin. He was predeceased by his father Frank McVey and sister Leah (McVey) Forsythe. Barry grew up in Regina and returned to Saskatchewan in 1987 to own and operate eight Smitty’s Restaurants in Regina, Humboldt, and Swift Current. He also partnered with business associates and friends to open The Broken Rack in Regina. Barry was an avid fisherman, and also loved hunting in the fall and snowmobiling in winter. Summers were spent with family and friends camping in Saskatchewan and later boating on the Shuswap Lake in BC. Despite battling Parkinson’s, heart disease, and cancer, Barry enjoyed a busy and fulfilling retirement with Joanne. Barry passed away peacefully with family on Saturday, January 12. A Memorial Celebration will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome.
