On behalf of our family we would like to send our deepest condolences to Glen's family. Each one of us had the pleasure of knowing Glen at different stages of his life. One of the things that we all appreciated was his great sense of humour. His positive attitude was always present when visiting with him no matter the circumstance. It is nice to know that Glen has been recognized for his contributions to the game of basketball.
We will sincerely miss Glen.

We are very sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. My name is Marty Raddatz and my wife's name is Rhonda. I first became friends with Glen when we played together on the Regina Optimists basketball U21 team. We had tons of fun playing on that wild and crazy team. Of particular note was when our team traveled to St John Nfld to represent Sask at the Nationals. That was a super fun trip, with lots of practical jokes and constant belly laughs.
Glen was also a member of my wedding party when Rhonda and I were married in 1978. It's hard to believe that was forty years ago.
We remained friends playing lots of basketball together over the years.
Glen was one of those rare people that radiated pure positive energy. I can't think of him without getting a huge grin on my face.
We are deeply sorry for your loss. We were indeed fortunate to have had Nellie as part of our lives. He will not be forgotten,
Take care.

Alex & Katie, we are so very sorry to hear of the passing of your father. We are quite aware of his battle over the last few years, but he did have a positive attitude & was such a trooper! We’ll always remember his smile, his joking personality, him running up & down the court reffing high school basketball games, joking with the girls on the floor & with us parents sitting on the sidelines & how he offered to buy Cydney a car if she would have transferred to Riffel to play! I told him, Her MOM wants a mustang! Haha I also enjoyed his stories, conversations & humor as we were riding the bus together with the MVP China volleyball team! He was a special, one of a kind person & we know he will be greatly missed by everyone that was fortunate to meet & know him! Just know girls that one day you WILL be able to think of him with a smile & just a little tear! Our thoughts & Love are with you both! Take care!
Lana, Paul Auzenne & family xoxo

I first met Glen where we both worked for the City of Regina, Forestry Division. Right from the start, Nellie was a pleasure to be around. He often spoke of his daughters and was very proud of both of them. Girls, years ago, you and your dad were sitting on our deck with my wife Debbie and I. He said he had a unique way of putting ponytails in your hair. He placed an elastic on the end of a vacuum cleaner, sucked your hair into the vacuum and rolled the elastic onto your hair. Voila, ponytails. As Debbie and I are out of the country and unable to attend the funeral service, both of us want to send our condolence to family and friends.

It seems like a million years since I first met Glen and played 3 years of Cougars with him. Some of the others have done a wonderful job of describing him and the the way he was. I played with him, and later in Senior Mens ball against him and he was always such a likeable guy, intense in games and when the whistle blew, looking to make you laugh no matter which team you were on. Seeing him again at the Reunion recently was a great chance to reconnect with him, and even given the numerous serious health concerns he was battling, always with a positive spin. He was truly one of a kind.

I met Glen at the Cougars tryouts on September of 1982 . I was a 17 years old kid from Greece that had to adopt in a new environment and a new culture. He was always this older guy that like to bug me and always make jokes about my accent ... his sence of humor sometimes was annoying... but down the stretch he was a true leader and an inspiring figure that I will never forget .. I always thought that I will visit Regina and had a chance to reunite with him. Unfortunately God had differed plans .... It's hard to explain but the sadness I feel is overwhelming me and words are cheap.....
God bless him and my condolences to his family.....
Best regards to all of you

Even with news of his accident, I never imagined that Peter Pan could ever die. Probably good that I never saw him broken, that way he will always be the boy who never grew old.
Prayers for Glen's safe journey.
My deepest condolences to his family, friends and everyone that his spirit embraced.

The Shamrock basketball and slow pitch teams had the honour of having Glen as a teammate. He was undoubtedly one of our most valued players not only due to his incredible talents on the court and diamond but equally, his infectious fun loving personality and energy created good times & many memories for the "Rocks" and their families. Glen was so much fun and he shared his gift with all who were around him. "Funny Glen" as the Shamrock kids affectionately called him will be greatly missed. His perseverance and optimism were an incredible lesson for us and will hopefully provide strength for his family. Our condolences to the Nelson family.

I had the pleasure to coach Glen at the U of R. He was the first star player I coached with the Cougars and he was something special. Glen never did things the conventional way. For example if he had his back to the basket and didn’t have a shot, he would throw the ball off the backboard, catch it and make the layup. Not something you see done everyday. He was like the Energizer Bunny. He never stopped going. We had some great talks during his career and I remember them fondly. A truly special young man who didn’t know how to quit. I was so pleased to see him at the 50th reunion. He was on cloud 9. I hope the young Cougars realize how special Glen was.
Glen, I will miss you but you will always be in my thoughts. My condolences to his family who already know how special he was.

I was very lucky to play with Glen for all 5 years of my cougar basketball experience. He and I met back in the fall of 1980 at the Cougar tryouts. He was this athletic older guy (23, I thought he was so old) who everyone was excited about and I was this young (17) quiet kid out of Leboldus. Glen, who became the best player on the team by our first practice, went out of his way to support and encourage all of us younger guys, while meshing well with our older guys. Never thinking he was better or more important than anyone else.
Glen had a way about him, he was fun loving, always good natured and always good to everyone. He brought an energy and passion each and every day that was unmatched. That wasn't an easy thing, as those first couple years were lean and frustrating years. But Glen, was never phased, always positive, always focused, always encouraging, a fantastic role model and leader. Glen was successful from day 1, with his slashing, energetic, fast paced, full court game. Glen was a great basketball player, but he was an even better athlete, who could run and jump with guards, mixed with his 6'5" frame, and an unlimited energy level. It was a lethal combination. He was king of the o-boards. Relentless. Coach is right, he would throw the ball up and just go get it. He was fun to play with and we both loved to run and enjoyed the fast break and all those fast break drills in practice. We couldn't get enough. We loved playing together as our games seemed to mesh so well. Eventually, we would enjoy some team and personal success. He made those 5 years special and some of the best times of my life.
Additionally, he was a great friend over those U of R days. We often roomed together, worked out and played together, socialized together and had some great times on those road trips. He was a great guy, who everyone liked and was drawn to. His courage he displayed over the last part of his life, superseded anything he did as a player. His attitude, courage and positive outlook was even more impressive than anything he did on the court. He was special, and he made everyone around him better. We got to connect at the 50th Alumni weekend for the first time in a long time, and it was awesome to see him and talk old times. He was the same old Glen, despite all he had and was still going through. It is a tough stretch for our generation of Cougar basketball, first Randy Clark and now Glen Nelson, but we need to celebrate how he made our lives better.
Glen will be missed, and our condolences go out to all of the Nelson family and friends.
