Kenneth Orr

Obituary of Kenneth Samuel Orr

Ken passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the age of 92 years.  He was predeceased by his wife Irene in 1998; son Stewart in 2015; his parents, Jean and Sam Orr; his mother and father-in-law, William and Clara Grant; and brothers Wilbert (Doreen) of Swift Current and Gordon of Vulcan, Alberta. Ken is survived by his children,  Mary (John Bacon), and Donald (Barbara Flaten); and sister-in-law Doreen of Vulcan, Alberta. Ken enjoyed a very special relationship with his six grandchildren, Daniel, Peter and Anna Mathen, and Chris, Jamie and Kylie Orr. Ken will be sadly missed by other family and good friends along with his special friend, his Wheaton Terrier, Sadie, who had been his constant companion during the last several years. Ken graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Arts and was employed by the Saskatchewan Government and the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool before retiring in 1984.  He was a member of Carmichael and Broadway United Churches and was active in Banner Lodge, King Hiram Lodge and the Scottish Rite Masonry.  He was a founding and lifelong member at the Tartan Curling Club and volunteered tirelessly for various charities. He was a lifetime Saskatchewan Roughrider season ticket holder. One of his greatest joys was watching the Roughriders win the Grey Cup in Regina, on his birthday, November 24, 2013. Ken often said “the Roughriders always win in heaven.” We would like to thank Dr. Jim Carter for his care of Ken in the last few years. Thanks also to Dr. Daoust-Lafond and the medical staff of ward 4B at the Pasqua Hospital for their compassion and support. Ken will be honored at a memorial service at Broadway United Church at a future date. Flowers are respectfully declined. Those so wishing may make a memorial donation in Ken’s name to the University of Regina, 3737 Wascana Parkway, Regina, SK, S4S 0A2 or Hospitals of Regina Foundation, 1874 Scarth Street, Regina, SK, S4P 0S3.
