Obituary of John William Hneda

It is with deep regret that we announce the falling asleep of John at Sunset Extendicare on Monday, February 18, 2019.  He was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Anne, on April 27, 2018; parents Helen (Elena) and John; as well uncles and aunts – including his favorite uncle Harry Hneda. John is survived by his sister-in-law Mary Swyryda of Regina; and three second cousins. He was born in Regina on August 28, 1938 and completed his elementary schooling and attended high school at Belfour Tech. John married Anne Swyryda on September 17, 1960.

John in his youth, was employed as a salesman at Western Clay and later by Consolidated Block and Pipe of Regina. In his next stage of gainful employment John went into private business when his Uncle Harry Hneda bought John his first gravel truck. Subsequently, John bought a second truck and operated his company John Hneda Trucking until his retirement, nearly exclusively doing trucking for NIS Construction of Regina. John and Anne were active lifelong members of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, Ukrainian Orthodox Sobor in Regina and John was a member of the Regina Ukrainian Orthodox Men’s Association -TYC nearly since its founding in 1959. Many thanks are extended to the staff of Sunset Extendicare for the loving care they provided John during his stay at the Sunset Extendicare.  Funeral Rite will be held at Descent of the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1305 12th Avenue, Regina, SK, on Friday February 22, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. A Memorial Lunch will follow at the Descent of the Holy Spirit, Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Lower Level Auditorium.
