Joni was a former SUNTEP student and she is remembered fondly by all of the staff who taught her. She was tough, kind, brilliant...an outside of the box thinker. She was proud of her Metis heritage. She was a heck of a jigger and she was proud of where she had come from. One thing I'll always remember about Joni was her arms. She was such a tiny girl, but she had these thick sinewy arms from carrying Eddy up and down stairs at the university. She was an amazing mom and everything she did was for her kids. As a teacher, Joni had a real gift for connecting with marginalized kids. She saw in them the same struggle and resilience she had learned to hone herself. My condolences go out to Joni's children and family. Joni will be greatly missed by the SUNTEP and Michif communities.
