My heart broke when I received the news of Marty’s passing. I worked with him at Labatt in Edmonton many years ago. He was always very helpful and eager to succeed. I cannot imagine the turmoil he suffered. My sincere condolences to the family.

I was very shocked and saddened to read about your loss, Alvin and family. Marty was a student teacher in my high school classroom many years ago in Grandview and although he was cut out for that career, I was not surprised by him choosing to continue his work with Labatts. Thanks to Marty we were able to deck out our huge party raft for an annual derby on the Waterhen River in true "blue" style! Marty was truly fun and memorable. May all of you touched by his love, remember the good times - and let those memories sustain you during this difficult time.

It is with much sadness and heartfelt sorrow that we send condolences
for Martin's passing to Alvin, Val, Nadine, Heather, Lyon and Silas.
Martin was my nephew, he lived and worked with us in the summer of 1989, it was then that I really got to know and get a better understanding of who he was. He was a confident, hard working get things done kind of guy, always cheerful and willing to be a bit risky...
The obituary is very well written and describes Martin as I thought of and seen him living his life, full of energy with many great goals.
It was a pleasure to have known him and I was very proud to call him my nephew.
My most sincere condolences to you all.
Martin's candle will always burn and shine bright lighting the world for me and all the lives he so tenderly touched.
God Bless Martin may he rest in Peace in Heaven.
Merle, Darlene, Natasha & Tyler Funk

Sending much love to the boys, Lyon & Silas, and Marty’s family Alvin, Nadine, Heather & their families. This obituary gives such an insight into Marty’s battle. I hope with time everyone can focus on the good memories. We had such great times together on the family wedding trips to Dominican & PEI! I’m glad to have gotten to know him as an adult when he wasn’t just a disinterested (& sometimes mean!) older brother to us as kids.

My sincere condolences to Marty’s family and friends, Susanne and their boys. Marty and I were good friends in high school and he truly was a bright, charming, optimistic, energetic go-getter.
I can remember one evening he was at my family’s home. He stayed for dinner. During dinner with a huge table full of my family and hired men that worked for my dad, discussions opened up with small talk, etc. The men started talking about land for sale and the benefits of real estate. Marty chimed in that his uncle had a condom....the table went silent and I am sure I choked on my food. My dad said slowly....you mean condominium? Marty laughed with a cute confident but red faced grin. ‘Yeah yeah condominium.’ We all laughed so hard. He was immediately part of the gang of older men at the table.
Thank you for such an honest and touching description of Marty. I am so saddened to know he struggled with ‘Monsters on his bus”.
So many great memories....I am glad he is at peace.
Sincerely,
Tara Yuill
