Albert Hostin

Obituary of Albert Joseph Homer Hostin

Albert Hostin, born March 28, 1925, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2019.  He will be forever remembered by his children, Shirley and Garry of Regina SK. and Kelly (Tammy) of Rockglen, SK; six grandchildren, Michael (Karen), Kristy (Colin), Trina (Chad), Jenna-Lee, Tyler and Breanna; four great-grandchildren, Stella, Grady, Otis and Adalynn; and sister Shelley. Albert was predeceased by his loving wife Olga; daughter Denise; brothers, Rene and Roger; father and mother, George and Marie.

Albert was born in Willow Bunch, SK. and raised in Rockglen, where he met and married Olga and together they raised their four children. In 1992 Albert and Olga semi-retired to Regina and made their final home there.

He was very involved in the community while living in Rockglen.  He served on the RM board for many years, volunteered at the local curling rink and gave many hours of his time. Albert and Olga together enjoyed curling and other social events in the community.

Albert received many awards, including the Public Service Award in recognition of having served in the Poplar Valley Municipality, Recognition and Appreciation for having served in the rural local Government in Saskatchewan, the Scotty Richardson Memorial Award for outstanding contribution to the Rockglen Curling Club. Albert and his wife Olga together received the Family Farm Heritage Award to honour the heritage of their family farm which has been continuously operated and continues to be operated by members of the family since 1912.  Albert loved playing cards, especially the game of bridge and continued playing up to a couple of months before he passed away.

Albert took pride in his farm, and so loved seeing the wheat swaying in the wind, always watching the sky and pondering what the fall harvest would bring.

A private family interment at Rockglen Catholic Cemetery will follow at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. Those so wishing, may make memorial donations in Albert’s name to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan Inc., 2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4P 3X1
