I was so sorry to learn of Jackie’s passing. As I read her obituary, I am reminded of how she also made room for me in the busy and loving Smith home. It was not just the welcome, the inclusiveness, and of course the generosity; but the laughter and joy that was so much a part of being around Jackie. I first met Jackie and the Smith family through my friend Dave. I was away fro home for the first time, and although I wanted to present as the invincible 16 year old, I did miss my home and family. Jackie did not miss a beat when I first met her- she made me feel that her home was my home, she was interested in me, and she did not let me get away with anything! We would exchange stories, and laugh. She was authentic and loving, and helped me transition to my new life and all the adventures and friends that came with it. I am grateful to have had Jackie in my life, and hope Bill, my wonderful friend Dave, and all the extended Smith family can take comfort in how much their wife mother, mother-in law, grandmother, meant to all people who met her. I will be thinking and praying for all of you in this difficult time. All my love, Gerry.
