Obituary of Elroy Catherine Freeman

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Elroy announces her peaceful passing on Thursday, June 27, 2019 in Regina, SK. Elroy was predeceased by her father William Dempsey and her mother Catherine Dempsey. She is survived by her loving husband Richard (Dick) Freeman; her children, Dale (Terri) Freeman, Leslie (Duncan) Blyth and Dean (Shannon) Freeman; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Kyle and Rachel Freeman (Max and Maya), Chad Freeman, Cole Freeman, Kaylin Freeman and Taylor Drake (Lennon), Taryn and Dillon Gregoire (Owen), Jeff and Katie Blyth (Emmett), Todd Blyth, Kadie Freeman and Chloe Freeman; five siblings, Edith Rink, Shirley Deneiko, Lois Didur, Happy (Ken) Rink and Jim (Tena) Dempsey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Elroy was on born December 4, 1937 in Young, SK. She left the family farm to finish her education in Regina, attending both Qu’Appelle Diocesan School (QDS) and Balfour Collegiate. She met and later married her husband Richard Freeman in 1958. She worked as a medical receptionist until the birth of her first son. She returned to work after a few years, at IPSCO where she worked until she retired.

Elroy loved her family and she would do whatever it took to help at any time. Her husband, her children and her grandchildren were the focus of every day.  She and Dick loved having their grandchildren over for sleepovers and to prepare for the holidays by carving pumpkins or decorating cookies.

Elroy took great pride in her home. It was decorated beautifully inside and out. For all family gatherings or social events, the table was beautifully arranged and sweets lined the cupboards. The food was eagerly anticipated, as it was always delicious.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Grace Hospice for the amazing care they provided.

A Celebration of Elroy’s Life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. Private family interment will be held.
