Obituary of Dorothy Cora Dreger

Dreger, Dorothy

Dorothy was born on December 29, 1922 in Glen Bain, Saskatchewan and passed away on July 4, 2019 in Vancouver, British Columbia. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Dreger; her sons-in-law, Joe Celentano and Garnet Hannah; her grandson, Greg Hannah; her parents, Carl and Barbara Deg; her siblings, Carl Deg Jr., John Deg, Lily Finkbeiner, Hilda Raw, Mary Seitz and Mabel Cranmer. Her memory will be cherished by her daughters, Sandra Celentano and Eunice Hannah, along with her granddaughter, Kelly Hannah (Warren Jung), great-grandson Kieran Jung and her sisters Clara Vossler and Evelyn Janke.

Dorothy pursued a career as a school teacher in a one room school on the bald Saskatchewan prairie. This led to her meeting and marrying her husband Herb in 1944, at which point she became a farmer’s wife and later a mother. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting, playing the piano and the organ at church and dancing at the town hall on Saturday night in the summer. She was active in the Lang Helping Hand and served on the board of the local credit union. Retirement took her to live in Milestone, where she keep busy assisting in the maintenance at Carrington Court and eventually to Regina, where she was active in organizing social functions for the residents of the complex, where she resided and enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for her family. When Dorothy’s children moved to British Columbia, they were able to convince her to follow as well and she enjoyed day trips to see the sights, walking in the courtyard and games in the evening with her friends. She was elated by the arrival of her great grandson.

It was Dorothy’s wish to be returned to her prairie roots.
