Obituary of Simonne Elizabeth Gartner

Simonne passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her husband Eugene; her youngest son Brent; her parents, Prosper and Martha Brynooghe; parents-in-law Peter and Felicia Gartner; and brothers, Gilbert (Hannah) and Daniel (Irene). Simonne is survived by her loving children, Dianne Morgan (Jim), Ken (Linda), Gloria Leite (Dave), Daryl (Anna), Bernadette Sanheim (Ken), Gerry (Cathy) and Sherry Sabourin (Leon); sister Denise (Bill) Esopenko; sisters-in-law Harriet and Leona Gartner; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Simonne was born on November 25, 1927 at Kenaston, SK. She grew up on the family farm working with her family and attending Hillage School which she walked to every day. After her school years, she moved to Davidson where she served at a restaurant, The Owl Café, where she met her husband Eugene.  They were married on November 25, 1947. They farmed and raised their family together on the farm east of Girvin. In 1972, they sold the farm and moved to Regina with their four youngest children.  She worked for a number of years in sales at Zellers and later as a hostess at many banquets. She was a long-time member of the CWL at St. Martins and a dedicated volunteer with Meals on Wheels for many years. Simonne spent her last years in Sunset Extendicare. Prayers were held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Martin de Porres, 4720 Castle Road on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Kenaston Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Those so wishing, may make memorial donations in Simonne’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1738 Quebec Ave. Unit 26, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1V9.
