Dorothea “Dodie” Heckman, passed away peacefully on Monday July 29, 2019 at the age of 86. She was predeceased by her husband William Gary “Bud” Heckman; parents Bill and Freda Morrison; in-laws Bob and Marcina “Peg” Heckman; brother-in-law Keith Yeomans; and nephew Drew Morrison. Dodie will be deeply missed by her daughter Jan (Art) Burkart and their daughters Sara and Emily; son Terry (Kim de Laforest) and their son Hunter; and son Ian (Val) and their sons Carter and Jackson; sister Willa Yeomans; brother Don (Barbara) Morrison; sister-in-law Norene (Ray) Craddick; nephews Glenn Yeomans, Kurt Yeomans, Doug Morrison and Robert Craddick; along with their families and many other extended family members. Dodie was born and raised in Regina, earning her nursing degree from RGH in 1954, working until deciding to be a full-time mom. She always supported her children and grandchildren (as well as their friends) in all of their activities, getting to as many concerts, ball games, competitions etc. as she could. Dodie was known affectionately as our band groupie, rarely missing any Prairie Winds Concert Band performances. She was also very involved in the Regina Lioness Club for many years in various roles and helped organize many of her nursing class reunions. She was always up for trying any new adventure and was known for having a cheerful positive attitude no matter what life threw at her. The family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Bester and his wonderful office administrator Shirley for their many years of compassionate care, as well as Dr. Joanne McLeod for always being in the right place at the right time to answer questions/find information each time Mom was in the hospital. Thanks to the various doctors, nurses and staff at Allan Blair Cancer Centre, Pasqua Hospital and Grace Hospice for their care. Many thanks to the staff and residents of Wintergreene Estates for making her last few years so enjoyable. Much appreciation also to the many team members from Home Care, especially Theresa and Blair, for their wonderful care of Mom, allowing her to live as independently as possible. Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Friday, August 2, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. A family interment will take place at a later date in Regina Memorial Gardens. Those so wishing, may make memorial donations in our Mom’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3.
