Obituary of Efstathia "Elsie" Stathoula Kalmoukis
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Efstathia Stathoula (Elsie) Kalmoukis. She passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital on the afternoon of August 24, 2019. Stathoula was born on March 11, 1931 in Paralio Astros, Kinoureas, Greece. She was predeceased by her parents Mixahl and Sofia Maroudis; her brother Charles Maroudis (Athena); sister Efthimia Kapetanios; and son Mixahl Kalmoukis. Elsie is survived by her loving husband Dimitrios Kalmoukis; children Ted Kalmoukis (Amanda), and Voula Constantinides (Demos); sister Helen Flengeris (Constantinos); brother-in-law Nikolas Kapetanios; grandchildren Stelios (Constantinides), Elise Kalmoukis and Dimitrios Kalmoukis and numerous nieces and nephews. Elsie was the oldest of four siblings. In 1958 she decided to follow in her brother’s footsteps and immigrated to Regina, SK, Canada. Her first job was at The Balmoral Restaurant then The Boutique where she worked as a seamstress for many years. Her future husband Dimitrios joined her in Canada and they were married on October 13, 1963 and shortly thereafter, they started their family. She was an active member of the Daughters of Penelope and past president of the Ladies Philoptochos society both charitable organizations tied to the church and AHEPA. She was heavily involved in our annual multicultural event Mosaic where she helped manage the kitchen for over 25 years. She loved her church and was proud to spend a large amount of her free time moving the community forward. Her generosity, kindness and warm heart touched many in the Greek community who regarded her with the utmost respect and love. She has a special place in many people’s hearts. The family would like to thank Fr. Spiro Vandoros for all his support and spiritual guidance through this difficult time. Special thanks also to the staff at the Pasqua hospital, Unit 4A and MSU, for their dedication and kindness over the past several weeks. Prayers will be held at St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church, 3000 Argyle Road, Regina, SK on Tuesday, on August 27, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will take place at St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Regina Memorial Gardens, reception to follow at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stathoula’s memory may be made to St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church.
