Ronald Borden

Obituary of Ronald Lee Borden

After a long and valiant battle, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Borden on September 9, 2019 at the age of 85 years. Ron will be lovingly remembered by his family including his wife of 64 years, Lois; son Mark (Barb); son Rick (Adele); son Jeff (Tracy); daughter Karen (Kevin); daughter Kim; 10 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Ron loved spending time with his family and truly enjoyed his grandchildren. Ron was born on July 15, 1934 in Standard, Alberta. He graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Theology, and worked as a Minister for approximately 15 years. Ron later received a Master’s degree in Psychology and Counselling and worked in the mental health field in both the United States and Canada before taking a position with the Saskatchewan Public Service with the Ministry of Culture and Youth. In 1983, Ron embarked on his dream job as Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Museum of Natural History. Over the next 13 years, Ron worked passionately to promote the Museum’s work, which included such highlights as the discovery of the Scotty T.rex dinosaur bones in Eastend and the addition of Megamunch, Canada’s first resident robotic dinosaur. People that knew Ron will remember a mind that was incredibly inquisitive, his kind and warm personality, his leadership and passion for his work, and his wonderful humour. Even in his last years he would often catch people off guard with his witty comments. Residents at Santa Maria will fondly remember his enthusiastic outbursts of Amen! during mass. The family would like to thank the staff of the 3rd floor at Santa Maria for the loving care they provided to Ron. A private family service will be held at a date later this year. Flowers most gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to the Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association, Regina Chapter.
