Elmer Charko

Obituary of Elmer Charko

It is with profound sadness that we announce Elmer Charko passed away on Tuesday September 17, 2019 at the age of 82 years; surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his parents Steven and Mary Charko and his two brothers Carl and Mike. Elmer is survived by his wife of 56 years Laverne; his children Doug (Juliet), Garth (Melissa) and Tammy (David); six grandchildren; his brother Clarence (Lorna); along with numerous nieces and nephews. True to his personality, Elmer requested that his obituary not be too long because people will “get bored and stop reading.”  In brief, Elmer lived his whole life in Saskatchewan.  Born in Blaine Lake and moved to Regina in his 20’s to start his 32 year career at SaskTel. Elmer was actively involved with SaskTel curling League and enjoyed the momentous achievement of an 8 ender. Elmer enjoyed fishing, travelling, swimming and spending time with friends. Dad was like ‘MacGyver’; he could figure out how to fix anything. Most of all he cherished his family especially his grandchildren, Lee (Mark), Brandon, Reid, James, Steven, and Ed. Special thanks to the Palliative Home Care team, Dr. Z. Belak, and the MAID team. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, Regina, SK on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those so wishing, may make memorial donations in Elmer’s name to The Lung Association of Saskatchewan, 1231 8th Street East, Saskatoon, SK, S7H 0S5.
