Obituary of Eugene Michael Gazda
GAZDA, Eugene
Eugene passed away suddenly in Regina, on Sunday, October 13, 2019 after sharing a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with his family. Fittingly, a Hunter’s Moon was at its fullest for Gene’s final drive in the country. He was born in Regina on January 21, 1930. Gene graduated from Balfour Collegiate and began his career as an accounting clerk at Regina Motor Products. There he worked his way up to Office Manager and eventually Secretary Treasurer, ending his career some 46 years later. Gene met Mary Lukas, a beautiful Bank of Nova Scotia teller and they married in 1954. Together they raised five children, Sharon, Tom, Doug, Kathy, and Rob. Gene passed on his love of the outdoors to each of his children and grandchildren. Hunting was his passion and he loved sharing his cabin in the RM of Kelvington with family and friends. Fishing, berry picking, and sausage making were all activities he lived for and was still actively participating in this past summer. Gene spent hours driving country roads with his field glasses, looking for that elusive trophy buck and always had a biscuit in the back of his truck for his four legged family members. He loved hockey, playing into his early 70’s. The Toronto Maple Leafs was his team, Sidney Crosby his favourite player. This much loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother in law and friend will be sorely missed. Predeceased by his daughter Sharon, sister Marie Griffin and brother Gerald Karst. Gene leaves behind his wife of 65 years Mary, his children Tom (Judi), Doug (Georgie), Kathy Barbeau (Marc) and Rob, his seven grandchildren Megan, Geneva Heglin (Chris), Matt (Kaylan), Ellen Barbeau (Aaron Dubois), Levon (Crystal Kirsch), Nick and Nathan Barbeau, great-grandchildren Niko and Isabel, as well as brother-in-law Jack Griffin. We are grateful to neighbours Dave, Alison, Braeden and Caitlyn Koteck for their caring, watchful support of Gene and Mary. Thank you to Regina Police Service, EMS personnel, the outstanding staff at Regina General Hospital, as well as Chaplin Cliff Geiger. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Martin de Porres Parish, 4720 Castle Road, Regina, SK on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing may make donations in memory of Gene to Nature Conservancy of Canada, 2230A 6th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 0S1.
