William Sheppard

Obituary of William "John" Sheppard

John, was a proud veteran of the Royal Canadian Artillery (2nd Canadian Infantry, B Troop), whose service in WWII included the Liberation of Holland and the saving of 5 million people from imminent starvation.  He returned to Holland several times later where he made lifelong friends.  After the war the Department of Veterans Affairs paid for John to attend law school at the University of Saskatchewan, an opportunity which passed his wildest expectations coming from a poor farm family with his father passing away when John was 9.  From his law school graduation until his retirement John worked in small law firms, specializing in estates and real estate, because he so enjoyed working with people.  The firm Sheppard, Braun, Muma in Gold Square still bears his name.   Coinciding with his law career, John served 20 years with the Canadian reserve army, qualified as a Colonel, and received Canada Decorated status.  Two of John’s favourite hobbies were playing with the Regina Heritage Fiddlers and storytelling.  John had two loving marriages, Ann Kutzak Sheppard and Laura Roszell Sheppard.  A brief interment will be held at Riverside Memorial Park, 815 Assiniboine Avenue, Regina, SK, on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. A Celebration of John’s Life and reception will follow at Memories Restaurant, 1717 Victoria Avenue, at 2:00 p.m.  Memorial donations in John’s honour may be made to a charity of your choice.
